Tommy Bowden has been a Division I college football head coach for the last 12 years. From
1999-2008, Tommy Bowden was the head football coach at the University of Clemson. Over his
10 years as the head coach at Clemson, Tommy compiled a record of 72-45. Tommy’s
65.4
winning percentage as a head coach was in the top 15 in the nation among active Division I
coaches at the time with at least 10 years of experience. During Tommy’s tenure as head coach,
Clemson reached a bowl game in all but one season.
 
Prior to joining Clemson, Tommy was the head coach at Tulane University for the 1997 and 1998
seasons. While at Tulane, the football team was 18-4 under Tommy’s leadership. In 1998, Tulane
won the Liberty Bowl and finished the season as the 7th ranked team overall in the country. The
Green Wave ended the ’98 season with a 11-0 record.
 
Football runs in Tommy’s family. Tommy is one of three sons of renowned Florida State University
head football coach Bobby Bowden. Tommy’s brother Terry is the head coach at North Alabama
University, where his other brother Jeff is an assistant on that staff.
 
Tommy lives in South Carolina with his wife Linda. Tommy and Linda have two children Ryan
and Lauren.
