Rick Mahorn

Detroit Pistons Radio



 
Rick Mahorn is a former collegiate and professional basketball player who now is an analyst for
Detroit Pistons radio. His 18 season NBA career included playing for the Washington Bullets,
Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, and Detroit Pistons, where he was a leader of famously
named “Detroit Bad Boys” and a member of the 1989 NBA championship team. While playing
for the 76ers, Rick teamed up with superstar Charles Barkley and the rebounding duo became
known as “Thump N’ Bump.” In addition, Rick spent a year in Europe where he played professional
basketball for Virtus Roma in Italy.
 
After his playing career, Rick spent 4 seasons as assistant coach of the WNBA’s Detroit Shock
and helped guide them to the WNBA Championship in 2006 and 2008.  In 2009 he became the
Shock’s Head Coach.
 
Rick Mahorn attended Hampton University where he became the first player from the school ever
drafted into the NBA. He is the school’s all-time points leaders and was the Central Intercollegiate
Athletic Association’s (CIAA) player of the year in 1978-79 and in 2003 was inducted into the CIAA
Hall of Fame.
 
Rick currently resides in Detroit, Michigan.
