Billy Packer

College Basketball Analyst




As the lead analyst for CBS Sports' college basketball coverage and covering over 28 consecutive
Final Fours, Billy won a Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Personality/Analyst (1993). 
Billy has separated himself from the rest of the pack, continuing to deliver the intelligent insight
that has allowed him to call the Final Four on a regular basis.

Billy began his broadcasting career in 1972 covering ACC games. He currently calls ACC games
for Jefferson Pilot Sports. In 1974 he joined NBC Sports for the opening round of the NCAA
Tournament. He teamed with Curt Gowdy in 1975 for the entire tournament, and worked with Dick
Enberg the following year on regular-season games as well as NCAA Tournament. Al McGuire joined
the pair in 1978, becoming one of the most popular broadcasting trios ever. 

Billy has written several books, including Hoops, College Basketball's 25 Greatest Teams,
History of the Final Four and Why We Win
. He has been inducted into the North Carolina Sports
Hall of Fame, Wake Forest University Hall of Fame, National Basketball Hall of Fame (Gowdy winner)
and the National Polish Hall of Fame. Billy also received North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year
Award. 

Billy graduated with an economics degree from Wake Forest University in 1962.

Billy lives in Charlotte, N.C. with wife, Barbara, he has three grown children.
