Georgia State University Football Head Coach
On June 11th, 2008, Bill Curry was hired by Georgia State University to be its first football Head
Coach. Bill was hired to build the program from the ground up and starting with the 2010 season,
Bill will see the fruits of his labor as Georgia State will play its inaugural season.
Prior to being hired to lead the Georgia State program, Bill was a college football analyst for
ESPN. In 1997 Bill joined ESPN with his primary assignment being the analyst on ESPN’s
Saturday night college football coverage and in addition some selected bowl games. His
knowledge and easy-going manner translated quite effectively into the broadcast booth, where
he was well received by fans and media alike.
Bill’s coaching resume includes stops at Georgia Tech, Alabama, and Kentucky. Along the way
Bill coached in numerous bowl games, was named Coach of the Year in the Atlantic Coast
Conference and the Southeastern Conference, and in 1989, he was named Bobby Dodd
National Coach of the Year.
Bill is a member of the state of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2010 was inducted into the
Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame.
Bill has served under the tutelage of some of the greatest coaches in history: Bobby Dodd,
Vince Lombardi, and Don Shula. He played in four NFL championship games, resulting in two
Super Bowl Championships, Super Bowl I and Super Bowl V.
In addition to broadcasting and coaching, Bill has gained a reputation as one of the most
inspiring speakers in America. He combines a humorous, dynamic delivery with a commanding
presence. Employing the principles of motivation learned from his prominent mentors, Curry
understands how to inspire and challenge others. He knows from experience that the road to
success is not without its valleys and he powerfully expresses the necessity of rising from defeat a
gain and again.
