Devlin to do Grizzlies TV play-by-play
The Grizzlies are pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Devlin as the team's first play-by-play broadcaster for television. Devlin has extensive experience as a play-by-play broadcaster of college basketball and football on ESPN, Atlantic 10 Conference basketball, the Madison Square Garden Network including the WNBA's New York Liberty, and served as host for New York Knicks' and New York Yankees broadcasts. Also, he has spent the last two years as Anchor for the NBA's 24-hour network, NBA.com TV.

"We are thrilled to have Matt become a part of our team," said Randy Stephens, Director of Grizzlies Broadcasting. "It should be an exciting season for Grizzlies TV viewers, because we have an exciting young team on the court, and we have added an announcer who we believe is a rising star in the world of broadcast."

In addition to his play-by-play duties, Devlin will be actively involved in Grizzlies' Community Investment Programs and special events. Now, Devlin has an opportunity to return to the state where he was a 1986 school graduate of Father Ryan High School in Nashville.

Devlin earned a bachelor's degree in communications at Boston College prior to starting his broadcasting career. He earned his first opportunity as a broadcaster of major professional sports in 1997 when he served as play-by-play announcer for select St. Louis Cardinals games on KMOX and the Cardinals Radio Network.

"I am extremely excited about being a part of the Grizzlies and being involved in the Memphis community," Devlin said. "I look forward to returning to Tennessee."

Matt and his wife, Erin, have a 2-year-old son, Jack, and are expecting their second child in January. Matt and his family plan to relocate to Memphis from New York.

A minimum of 40 Grizzlies games will be broadcast on WMC-TV Channel 5 and WPXX-TV Channel 50 during the upcoming season. WMC-TV will broadcast the historic season opener at the Pyramid on November 1 versus the Detroit Pistons. The Grizzlies plan to broadcast additional games on cable, and the team will announce an agreement when finalized in the near future.
